Adhyan aspires to give hope and invest in women and children to give them significant and long lasting benefits in quality of life, productivity, health, economic and social well-being. The WHO’s Survive, Thrive, Transform Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (2016–2030) highlights the lacunae in our current system. We at Adhyan believe that we can help alleviate some of these gaps. Our partners are meticulously chosen for their alignment with our purpose and their extensive experience in their respective fields of expertise. We partner with individuals, schools and organisations working in the following fields.

Women Empowerment
Women play a vital role in our society, and yet are the most disadvantaged. Research demonstrates that healthy women are the backbone of our communities. Strategies that provide investment and interventions in their education and well-being over their lifetime allows for better health and well-being outcomes.
At Adhyan we believe that empowering women is one of the key drivers of global change. As women rise, so do their children, families, and society as a whole. We enable women with the skills, tools and conviction that they need to rise out of the most challenging circumstances.
Women Empowerment
Adhyan works with women from all sections of society, including women from underprivileged backgrounds, as well as those who may have relative privilege but who, due to circumstances, find themselves in need of financial support to re-skill or up-skill themselves to support their families.
Adhyan seeks to help women who have been abandoned by their spouses or families, are widowed and/or abused, or whose spouses are terminally ill. We also provide support for women to upgrade themselves after a long break from work so that they can re-enter the workforce. We support any relevant trainings, courses or programme that we feel will directly impact the lives of the women we are committed to help.

Health
Women
Approximately 195 million women are affected by kidney disease worldwide. In India more than 80% of women who are diagnosed with chronic kidney disease are abandoned by their spouses and families. In some cases, they are abandoned with their young children. The total number of women dying due to kidney disease is grossly underestimated in India because of a lack of a kidney dialysis registry. 70% of dialysis patients in India are male reflecting the gender disparity in access to treatment. In most cases the increased financial burden of dialysis coupled with additional medical, nutritional expenses not to mention the psychological impact of the illness on the patient create huge barriers for women in particular to have access to dialysis.
Women
Kidney disease has a drastic effect on the lives of patients and their families that is often underestimated. Dialysis offers a solution to improve the quality of life and if caught early, it can save the patient and turn their lives and the lives of their family members around. The average life expectancy of a patient on dialysis is five to ten years. It is common for women to choose not to undergo dialysis due to the costs associated with it. They often prefer to spend the money on their children instead.
At Adhyan we support women who are on dialysis and fund their treatment cost. We also support their specific nutritional needs, supplements, other medical requirements and mental health reviews to help them cope and overcome the disease.

Children
In India, more than 200,000 children are born with congenital heart disease (CHD) every year. Of these cases nearly 60,000 to 90,000 suffer from critical issues and need early intervention. Only a small percentage of these children have access to sophisticated cardiac treatment. Financial constraints, community health-seeking behaviour, a lack of awareness and information are all obstacles to their receiving appropriate cardiac care. While this is a problem in both urban and rural settings, parents in rural settings tend to struggle a lot more, especially because of the astronomical medical costs involved and lack of facilities in their vicinity.
Children
Often, late diagnosis because of home births and inadequate health care results in the child developing various symptoms and complications leading to a poor quality of life and in many cases early mortality. Sadly, the misconception even among some health care workers that these children are somehow doomed and cannot participate in life fully, creates further socio-cultural and gender discrimination in early diagnosis, treatment and intervention.
At Adhyan, we fund heart surgeries and medical care of children with congenital heart disease with the belief that these children once treated can lead normal, healthy fulfilling lives.

Special Education
Special education is immensely important to children with learning disabilities, because it gives them the opportunity to get quality education in line with their unique needs and gain a high level of independence. It’s not a “one size fits all” approach — special education must be tailored to meet the needs of individual children.
Shocking statistics from the Census of India, 2011 shows that while 89% of children with learning disabilities are enrolled in primary school, only 8.5% actually go to secondary school and only 2.3% of the children reach higher secondary.
Special Education
Because of various environmental, cultural, social and economic constraints these children are less likely to be able to go to school than other children. Many of them are not diagnosed or diagnosed very late. Their future job prospects are also low, as they are unable to work and therefore denied the chance to lead an independent life.
A learning disability cannot be cured or fixed; it is a lifelong challenge. However, at Adhyan we believe that with appropriate treatment and interventions, people with learning disabilities can achieve success. With the right resources, institutes and teachers, a child with these challenges can also learn well. We support learning disabilities like ADD, ADHD, Specific Learning Disabilities, Sensory Processing issues and dyslexia. We provide sponsorships in education, special education, neuroplasticity-based therapies, cognitive and rehabilitative programs, sensory processing disorders, assessment tools and developmental profiles that aid in the holistic development of the child.

Community Initiatives
Daily life can be a huge challenge for people, affected by earthquakes, floods, accidents, poverty and/or and health crises leading to various physical and mental health issues. These circumstances can wreak havoc on the normal everyday living of human beings. Studies show how our environment, random events, stress, health care, social, cultural, psychological and family relationship factors contribute to the causes and consequences of disease and illness overcome crisis situations.
Community Initiatives
When a family is struck by health issues especially affecting the sole income provider, the family can go into a downward spiral of health and poverty. The increasing costs of medical care, education and cost of living further throw a family that was barely making ends meet into further uncertainty and turmoil. The current COVID- 19 pandemic has left a wave of economic and personal destruction in its path.
At Adhyan we aim to help minimise the long-term and short-term effects of such crises on people. We do this by distributing supplies to people affected by disasters; building homes for people affected by natural disasters; funding tuition for disadvantaged children; helping with medical emergencies and medical care; and, providing financial support to help overcome crisis situations.
